IN MY OPINION…THE ANSWER TO THE TRANSIT DEFICIT IS SO SIMPLE. WHY DOES TRANSIT ALLOW THEIR WORKERS TO GET ON THE TRAIN FOR FREE WHEN OBVIOUSLY THEY CANNOT AFFORD TO DO SO. IT IS SAID THAT THEY FEEL THAT THEY SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY TO GO TO WORK….HOWEVER…THEY ARE NOT AT WORK WHEN THEY WALK THROUGH THE TURNSTYLE…THEY ARE IN THE PROCESS OF GOING TO WORK AS IS EVERYONE ELSE. I CAN SEE A REDUCED FARE …HOWEVER……FREE AT THE STRAPHANGERS EXPENSE IS NOT RIGHT.
IF IN FACT MCDONALDS , OR ANY OTHER ENTITY ALLOW WORKERS TO EAT OR GET CLOTHES OR WHATEVER FOR FREE , THEY WOULD BE IN THE SAME CRISES AS TRANSIT. TRANSIT WORKERS MAKE MORE MONEY THAN MINIMUM WAGE SO WHY DOES THE AVERAGE MINIMUM WAGE JOE HAVE TO PAY FULL FARE. IF IN FACT WE ALL GOT A JOB WITH TRANSIT……..THEN WHAT?. TRANSIT IS DOING SOMETHING THAT THEY SIMPLY CANNOT AFFORD TO DO. REDUCED FARE YES …..FREE NO….MAKES NO SENSE.
Exactly. If transit’s public mandate–among other things–is to get people to their jobs then nobody should have to pay in order to get to work. The only time Transit employees should get a free-pass is when they are using Transit in the scope of their job. Getting to and from work is not in the scope of anyone’s employment.
