WRGB 6 was the first station in the market to produce news, sports, and weather in high definition, beginning in January 2008. CBS WRGB Albany was first to post weather forecasts on the World Wide Web, and won an Emmy in 1998 for Chief Meterologist Steve Lapointe’s work over two days during an outbreak of severe weather. They purchased their own weather radar called “Instant Doppler 6” in 2000, another market first. WRGB TV also encourages viewers to submit their own weather observations from the surrounding area, including snowfall and other current conditions.
