WSB-TV has an outstanding reputation for its news coverage. In 2015, for example, the station was nominated for 30 Emmys, including two for best newscast. (Points deducted, though, as the two newscasts were the 5 PM and the 6 PM slots. C’mon, it’s the same crew doing the same job–it’s one broadcast, not two!) Also, the WSBTV weather department is highly regarded.
Unfortunately, WSB’s website is not worthy of this respected news organization. While not as bad as the Atlanta CBS affiliate, it is lacking. The main problem is the lame home page. There is a nice link to the WSB live news stream, but the rest is a bunch of clutter.
Also disappointing is its display of its videos. There’s nothing but a small link at the top of its antiquated navigation menu to help visitors find its on demand section. Once you do get to it, it’s not very inviting.
It is possible we’re unfairly penalizing WSB-TV and its owner Cox Media Group–which publishes the Atlanta Journal-Constitution–because its news chops are so exemplary. Too Bad. The Action News 2 team at ABC Atlanta does a fantastic job of reporting. Cox Media should step into the future and recognize that these talents are being squandered on a borderline, amateurish website. [We callz ’em likes we seez ’em.]
